Heidi Montag Fights Back With 'Superficial'

Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt certainly aren't afraid to defend their reputations. In Heidi's new single, "Superficial," off her forthcoming release of the same name, the "Hills" star, with the support of her husband, says people's image of her is way off.

Heidi, who, along with Spencer, is celebrating the finale of another "Hills" season this week, explained that the song is another big step in her pop-music career. "I have my album coming out January 12 ... which I've been working on for three years. ... [I worked with producer] Steve Morales, who did a lot of J.Lo, Celine Dion, Britney Spears. He's done everybody," she told MTV News. "This song is about how everybody just calls me superficial and says that I'm a bitch and only about fashion and everything, and they don't know."


The singer added that just because she appears to be a certain way doesn't mean you know her. "That's what it's about — [appearing] superficial and how everyone calls me that," she explained. "So it's like, 'All right, you can call me that and I'll claim it, but you don't know me or anything about me. And you've only seen two minutes of me on "The Hills" for years.' "

In addition to prepping the album, Heidi is also amping up for her next TV appearance. She's in talks to perform at the World Cup next year. "I just performed at Miss Universe, which was over a billion eyes, a world record for the highest-rated television show for the history of the world," she said. "And now they're considering me and wanting me to do the World Cup, so that's what I've been doing. I'm gonna make a custom track."

SNEAK PEEK: Heidi Montag's Album Cover

Following a performance at this summer's Miss Universe pageant, Heidi Montag will take the leap into the recording world – and she's perfectly aware of what the business is about. (Hint: her debut album is titled SUPERFICIAL).

With the album due out Jan. 12, Montag is ready for whatever whirlwind comes her way.

"This cover is a shout out to the '80s," Montag tells PEOPLE. "It makes you remember when you just had to run out to the record store and get your favorite album. You dreamt of those tapes."

Liz Ciganovich, the album's production and art director, said she got the idea for an '80s tribute after seeing Montag's Overdosin' video.

"It reminded me of Olivia Newton John's Let's Get Physical in the '80s," said Ciganovich. "I thought, 'Let's do a shot that says '80s – lets pay homage to the mix tape!' The hunt was on. I believe I purchased every mixed tape in Los Angeles!"

Audrina Apologizes To Heidi, Spencer Weighs In

Well, we exclusively got our hands on a little email, which according to Heidi, was sent from Audrina, apologizing for her "misconstrued" comments.

Audrina writes:

"Hii Heidi,

I want to apologize for what seems like a very negative comment that I made about you over the weekend. It was taken entirely out of context and twisted completely. I would NEVER speak like that about you to the press, and I'm actually truly impressed with your performance and all of the hard work that you've put towards your career. Not that it matters at this point because the press have taken it to another level, but I was at a press junket and the journalist asked me if I could sing…I laughed and said that I was NO Mariah Carey. They asked me what I thought about your performance and I told them I knew you were having a blast and working very hard and that you had an amazing opportunity to perform on TV in front of a huge audience. The journalist asked me if I would ever do a record, and I laughed it off and said something along the lines of 'no, I think I’d offend people in the industry who can really sing.' It was NEVER intended to be a jab towards you – I was talking about my own lack of vocal skills. Ugh. I’m so sorry."

How nice. We guess with Kristin Cavallari running the show over on The Hills now, these girls know that you have to keep your friends close and your frienemies closer.

Miss USA: Heidi Was 'Pretty Good'

Kristin Cavallari isn't the only one who was impressed with Heidi Montag's Miss Universe performance.

Miss USA Kristen Dalton tells Usmagazine.com she thought Montag's rendition of "Body Language" wasn't bad.

"I thought it was pretty good because she's known as being a reality TV star, so it's cool that she came out as a performer, as a dancer and singer," Dalton, 22, tells Us.

"I thought she did a great job as a performer," she adds of Montag.

Anderson Cooper Rips Heidi A New One

We always knew that Anderson Cooper was the silver fox, but we never knew just how sharp his claws were! Thanks to Heidi Montag and her Miss Universe performance, Anderson was ready to pounce and did just that, tearing Heidi (wife of our pal Spencer Pratt) to shreds, saying she has found a "fresh new way to embarrass herself."


Cooper put the hard news on hold this week to dedicate two minutes to eviscerating Montag and her performance, starting off his rant with the following: "I don't really know who this person is, nor why she is pretending to be a singer nor why anyone should listen to her, but apparently she's famous."

He continued, saying that Montag is "so famous she actually Twitters.... And she Twittered to congratulate herself. She tweeted she had so much fun, and she also thanked God. I don't think God had anything to do with this production."

Was Anderson Cooper too harsh on Heidi?
Yes, she tried her best, and shouldn't be criticized.
Not at all! I couldn't have said it better myself!

Stephanie Pratt: Alexa Chung Chick

Hitting up the promotional circuit, Stephanie Pratt was spotted out visiting MTV studios in New York City on Monday afternoon (August 24).

Looking sexy in a shiny silver ensemble, the Hills hottie dropped by It’s On With Alexa Chung in Times Square to boost interest in the upcoming season of her hit reality show.

Meanwhile, Miss Pratt had nothing but compliments for sister-in-law Heidi Montag’s performance at the Miss Universe beauty pageant.

“Heidi looks bangin’ [in Playboy], but even better was her Miss Universe [performance] last night,” she told MTV News. “Freaked out. ... I was on a stool, just, like, ‘I cannot wait for this!’ I love ‘Body Language.’ Blown away. She’s never looked better. I thought she did absolutely amazing. I think she really could have blown it, and I really think this is a career possibility.”

“When I first met her, she said she wanted to be a pop star, and this was like three years ago,” Steph added. “Who really can be a pop star unless you’ve been singing and dancing forever? We’ve never seen Heidi take a dance class or anything like that.”

Kristin Weighs In On Heidi's 'Performance'

We know what Erin Lucas thought of Heidi's Miss Universe, but what did Kristin think?

"I was really impressed," the Hills star told Usmagazine.com at the Nylon magazine party last night. "It reminded me of Britney Spears at the VMAs when she ripped off her suit and was, like, nude with sparkles. She kind of looked like that." Ya think?

She also said, "She looked like she'd put a lot of hard work into it, and it paid off." Is she serious?

Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt: Back in LA

Returning from their trip to Paradise Island, Bahamas, Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt were spotted landing at LAX International Airport last night (August 24).

The Hills lovers were all smiles, as usual, as they encountered the waiting paparazzi, striking several poses as they made their way through the terminal.

Heidi and Spencer were in the Caribbean for the 2009 Miss Universe Pageant, where Montag gave her first “live” performance, lip-synching her new single “Body Language.”

And while the actual performance was widely panned, Heidi’s nude-colored ensemble and massive cleavage-baring tendencies have drawn plenty of attention from critics.

Heidi Montag Pratt's flesh-toned pants and bra combo from the Miss Universe pageant reminded us of rather famous outfit worn by Britney Spears.

During the 2000 MTV Video Music Awards, the 'Circus' superstar ripped off a layer of clothing to reveal her very nude costume.

Now, we know that Britney Spears, even these days, can kick Heidi's butt when it comes to performing, but as far as the outfit goes..

Heidi Montag - Miss Universe? Hardly!

Heidi Montag is scheduled to perform at this tonight's Miss Universe pageant in the Bahamas, but pageant production staffers are taking bets as to whether or not it will actually go down -- because she's just that bad!

Sources tells us pageant peeps are concerned that Heidi just can't pull it off. We're told "she's lip-syncing and can't remember the lyrics" (to her own song!!!), "looks like a trainwreck," and "she can't dance."

But she's got Jesus on her side, so we're sure it will turn out just fine.

Heidi Montag's New Song: The Oh Snap! Poll


The mind-blowingly unscientific results are in, and they're not so good for Montag. 64 percent of the folks we talked to gave "Body Language" the thumbs down, many citing the weakness of her voice as their reason for voting nay. Interestingly, the 36 percent who endorsed the track were pleasantly surprised at the quality of the beat and the effectiveness of the hook.

Working on perfecting her performance, Heidi Montag strutted her stuff at a rehearsal for her performance at Miss Universe 2009 in the Bahamas.

The blond beauty and husband, Spencer Pratt, arrived in the Bahamas on Thursday and yesterday (August 21) Heidi took the stage to practice her sexy moves.

And earlier today, Mrs. Pratt updated her Twitter page, saying, “On my way to thw main stage of Miss Universe for rehersel!!!! wowoowowowow!!!!!!!!!! im so excited!!!!”

The Miss Universe Pagent airs this Sunday (August 23) at 11pm ET on NBC.

Speidi Peddle Playboy, Head to Bahamas

Heading off to the Bahamas, Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt continued their special brand of self promotion as they arrived at LAX Airport in Los Angeles for a departing flight on Thursday (August 20).

Proudly displaying Heidi’s sexy Playboy magazine cover, the Hills co-star couple smiled and waved at paparazzi as they passed through security on the way to the departures gate.

On the way to Paradise Island for the Miss Universe Pageant - during which Heidi will be a performer - the MTV vixen posted to her Twitter page, saying “I have butterflies. I am having my first performance in 3 days!!!”

The pageant’s host Billy Bush made a request of Ms. Montag, replying, “i am also excited to hear you sing...don’t lip synch mama, i’ll be right there on stage with you...i want LIVE, no net!” to which Heidi replied, “haha don’t worry my performance at Miss. Universe will be as live as can be!!”

Heidi & Spencer Behave Like Divas, SHOCK!

As we mentioned weeks ago, Heidi Montag will be performing at the 2009 Miss Universe Pageant this coming Sunday at the Atlantis Paradise Island resort in the Bahamas.

But, already reports are coming out that Miz Montag is being all divalicious. And they aren't too fond of her hubby, Spencer Pratt, either.

Insiders say: "They're a complete nightmare. Heidi has missed many rehearsals" while "Spencer tried to demand that the hotel pay him to lay by the pool."

And that's after being comped on the cabanas. The insider adds, "The Atlantis laughed in his face."

As for Heidi's rep, they say, "It's absolutely untrue. She's been rehearsing in LA five days a week for the show, and Spencer hasn't spoken with the Atlantis."

Heidi Montag Preps for Miss Universe Pageant

Showing off her sexy physique, Heidi Montag was busy rehearsing her dance choreography for her new single “Body Language” in Los Angeles on Wednesday (August 19).

The MTV reality vixen is currently preparing for her big performance at the Miss Universe Beauty Pageant in the Bahamas on August 23rd.

In related news, Heidi chatted with Ryan Seacrest on his KIIS-FM radio show, telling that she’s up for another round of Playboy - and this time she’ll show more skin.

She tells: “It was just such a fun experience and I tapped into a different side of myself. I had a lot of fun doing the photoshoot… more of those to come! Always leave them asking for more. So, next time I have more to reveal.”

Miss Montag added: “For me personally, I feel like God created the body and the body is beautiful… that’s the way God created us, naked! So, I am not ashamed of it. I’m proud of it and especially because I worked out so hard. This was such a blessed experience.”
