Whitney Port Never Wanted to Be Famous

http://www4.pictures.zimbio.com/pc/Whitney+Port+Whitney+Port+Signs+Books+CKF0UY2SDPel.jpgPop Eater's Rob Shuter had the pleasure of chatting with former The City star Whitney Port about 'True Whit,' her fun, new advice book that is in stores now.

Tell me about the book.
Basically it's a lifestyle book for girls kind of going through that quarter-life crisis that is inevitable in all our lives where we all kind of move out of our houses and have to be on our own and become independent.

Did you screw up in any of those areas?
Of course! In all of them! In dating, choosing guys that weren't necessarily the best for me and job interviewing, not knowing everything I needed to know and not being as prepared as possible.

Not taking anything away from your success but you were very lucky to have a TV show to help you.
Right, of course I definitely had a great platform, they helped me with all the connections, definitely I'm the first one to admit that but I think still even before being on TV, I was working in fashion and worked my way up. Just from my experiences I could kind of see how you could do it without the cameras.

Do you ever get sick of the cameras?
Of course, yeah. I don't have the cameras around me right now, which is pretty refreshing. Yeah there were definitely times where I was like "I'm not in the mood for this today."

Did you actually want to be famous?
No, never I went to interview to be an intern at Teen Vogue and I found out MTV was going to be filming a show there and they wondered if I'd be interested in doing a casting tape so I kind of went along with it and I never knew it was going to turn into anything like this. I've just kind of been riding the wave I guess. It hasn't ever been like a goal of mine to be famous or to be on TV.

When you go home are you like, 'I'm not clearing the table, I'm Whitney Port!'
Oh my gosh, no way could I get away with that. I know this sounds crazy but when I'm not in the realm of this job, this career, whether its press or filming or interviews I don't even think of myself in that light and my family would never allow me to either. I feel like I was raised in a really normal, loving family so I don't get caught up in all that stuff.

Whitney Port Makes Time for Her Grandparents

http://cdn03.okcdn.okmagazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/whitney_port-222x300.jpgLife isn’t slowing down for reality star Whitney Port, whose Hulu Web series Genuine Ken starts next week and lifestyle guide True Whit is out next month.

In 2011, Whitney, 25, hopes to clock more hours with her family.

“My New Year’s resolution is spending more time with my grandparents,” she says during the PUMA BodyTrain collection launch held this week at NYC’s Lady Foot Locker. “It sounds really nerdy, but it’s something I need to do, and I have such a busy schedule.”

She’s also planning for her future. She swears off Playboy after a sexy Maxim shoot, saying, “There’s a certain tasteful aspect to Maxim. I’m covered up. I don’t feel comfortable baring it all.”

But Whitney, who has been dating Buried Life star Ben Nemtin for the past year, doesn’t put pressure on hitting certain milestones like getting married before she hits 30.

“Professionally, I’d still like to be designing my clothing line and have that prosper and be around. Other than that, I have no idea. I can’t plan that far in advance. But I’d definitely like to have a family – yeah, for sure – but when, I have no idea. I go with the flow.”

What is her relationship like now with her former Hills co-stars Audrina Patridge, Lauren Conrad and Heidi Montag?

“I think everyone is happy doing their own thing,” she tells me. “I think everyone’s doing pretty well.”

Whitney Port Turns Author With True Whit

She’s a reality star, a PR-girl and a fashion designer, but now Whitney Port is adding another title to her resume: author.

The MTV star, who appeared on The Hills before moving to New York to star in The City, will pen a book, True Whit, for It Books, due out in 2011.

In what her publisher describes as a "conversational, fun, and candid guide for girls looking to start out [in life] with style, " the Whitney Eve designer plans to write personal stories, and advice for young women.

"Being a twenty-something can be a difficult phase," says Port, 25. "There are so many questions, and I wanted to write about my experiences for anyone who needs help navigating through life."

Among the topics to be covered? Getting rid of puffy eyes, dressing for a date, decorating a tiny apartment, and hosting killer parties.

Adds Port: "It's a really fun and fresh how-to-guide where I can share anecdotes that I've learned from both work and my personal life."
